Chapter 11 Questions
Acquit- free (someone) from a criminal charge by a verdict of not guilty.
Explain why Pony might rather anyone's hate than their pity?
Pony would rather have someone's hate rather than their pity because he feels that if someone pity's you, it means that someone you barely know feels like they are superior to you, or they feel like they are better than you. He says that some people pity him because he is a Greaser, and to those people, Greasers are like poor people. Pony takes pride in being a Greaser and he does not like people pitying him or the other Greasers.
What do you think is going on with Ponyboy when he says, "Johnny didn't have anything to do with Bob's getting killed"
I think Pony has had a really rough couple of weeks, beginning with Bob's stabbing, and ending with Johnny and Dally's deaths. He is exhausted both physically and emotionally and when he gets sick, he leads himself to believe that Johnny didn't have anything to do with Bob's murder, and that he was the one who murdered him because he was drowning him, and had no other way to defend himself. He does this to make sure that Johnny died without people calling him a murderer. He made sure his friend died with all the respect that he deserved.
