Setting
The Outsiders took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The author S.E Hinton grew up there and still lives there. The characters in the story live on the east side of town, which is also known as the wrong side of town. The novel is set in the 1960's. The Outsiders took place in a variety of different places including:
~ Ponyboy's house. Ponyboy, and his older brothers Darry and Soapop live there.
~Drive-In. The Greasers go to see a movie there and meet a few Socs.
~Vacant Lot. Johnny and Ponyboy sleep here one night, the rumble happens here, and Dally is shot here.
~Abandoned Church. Pony and Johnny hide here after the murder of the Soc Bob.
~Dairy Queen. Dally takes Johnny and Pony here while they are hiding at the abandoned church.
~Hospital. Dally and Johnny are taken here after the fire at the abandoned church. This is where Johnny took his last breath and died.
~Gas Station. Soda and Steve work here. Pony talks with Randy in his car, and Pony threatens a group of Socs with a broken bottle because they were accusing him of murdering Bob.
~Pony's School. Pony talks with his English teacher about his failing grades, and what Pony can do to boost up his marks.
